The course provides an introduction to key concepts, methods and topics in epidemiology, as well as some of the statistical methods required to be able to appreciate and appraise epidemiological research. The course focuses on applied aspects of epidemiology in an interactive environment conducive to adult learning and integrating epidemiologic principles with the other streams in public health.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
Define and describe the common terminologies used in epidemiology.
Comprehend the basic concepts and approaches of epidemiology.
Apply the analytical skills to solve a given epidemiological problem or situation.
Utilize the epidemiological concepts to critically review scientific literature.
Conceptualize the relationship between epidemiology and other disciplines of public health.
Design epidemiological studies, based on the strengths and weaknesses of different epidemiological methods, to answer questions of public health practice.
Appreciate the application of epidemiology in daily life.
Develop a scientific temper and review the evidence before accepting any knowledge.
