Dr. Giridhara R Babu (GRB) is dedicated to advancing innovative approaches in global health and continues to seek transformative solutions for population health challenges worldwide.
Giridhara R. Babu, MBBS, MPH, PhD, is currently serving as a Professor of Population Medicine at the College of Medicine, Qatar University. He is also a Visiting Professor at Maastricht University, Netherlands, and the Public Health Foundation of India. With a career spanning over two decades, GRB has led transformative public health research across epidemiology, disease prevention, and health security. His extensive work on infectious diseases, including polio eradication and COVID-19, and his commitment to advancing health systems’ resilience have earned him recognition as a leader in global health.
He holds a PhD and a Master of Public Health from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and an MBBS from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, India. His research, which has shaped public health responses globally, focused on maternal and child health, non-communicable diseases, and health policy. He continues to influence health policy and education worldwide with over 650 media mentions. He has numerous peer-reviewed publications, making him among the global top 2% highly cited researchers in 2024 by Elsevier-Stanford List (Scopus-based).
He has over two decades of of experience driving strategic initiatives in health policy, epidemiology, and healthcare technology. His works include primary prevention of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) by delineating NCD determinants and elucidating the pathways to Gestational and Type 2 Diabetes. He has led initiatives in polio eradication, Measles elimination, and COVID-19 response, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to improving health outcomes on a large scale. He is deeply involved in projects focusing on vaccine decision-making, health economics, and data-driven health solutions, employing his expertise to support evidence-based policies and drive systemic improvements in public health.
Dr. Babu is a prolific writer of media and research articles and a book author. He has recently published books on insightful analysis on how demographic shifts affects global economies and healthcare systems. The books are part of the series, titled “Dawn of Change: Embracing Tomorrow’s Tech and Demographic Shifts”, explore the convergence of technology and demographic trends. His future books are on track, with the objectives of global health transformation and health systems strengthening for a healthy world.
